This project is one of design, marketing, and organizational innovation.  It started with extensive market research in the San Francisco Bay Area’s and Santiago’s boutique marketplaces – interviewing over 148 people in two months.  Collaborating with the Chol Chol Foundation, Jasmine Aarons then implemented an inclusive design workshop model with Mapuche weavers, women, from about 22 rural communities in the Araucanía region of Chile. The pilot accessory line, called “Project Chol Chol,” was developed through adapting artisans’ traditions and inspirations for a modern  boutique audience, using handcrafted, all natural and renewable materials.

Voz
will be our fair trade design line that will  continue to collaborate with Mapuche weavers and connect fashions to boutique audiences through representation, bold branding and design innovation. We will empower women financially, personally, and creatively.

Hi – I have been looking all over the internet for fair trade organizations that sell Mapuche tapestries on line. I will not be going to Chile any time soon, but I would love to buy some of these beautiful woven tapestries. Can you offer some recommendations?
    Many thanks,
    Elizabeth in NYC

Absolutely! The Chol Chol Foundation is the only fair trade organization specializing in Mapuche weavings (www.cholchol.org). There are also several non-fair-trade organizations, such as Artesanos de Chile. Enjoy / disfrutas los!

My daughter and I are hoping to go to Chile this summer with stops in Santiago and Temuco. Where can we find shops that carry yoour products? My father’s best friend growing up was Mapuche.

Hello! You can find our products in any of these stores throughout Chile.

In Temuco, where our foundation is located, the Chol Chol Foundation also has two of its own boutiques, one at the cultural museum in downtown Temuco, and the other at the Foundation’s headquarters.

Have a wonderful time in Chile!
